Students are encouraged to read widely (newspaper and internet articles, novels and plays).

Teaching is interactive with students frequently having to do presentations on a variety of topics.

Members of the English staff also offer optional courses such as Business English and Poetry & the Arts.

Students with problems in English can profit from an intensive offer of additional courses and personal tuition.

The Athénée offers English courses at various levels:

beginners (6e),

intermediate (5e/4e),

upper-intermediate (3e)

advanced (2e/1re).

We aim to bring our students up to level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages by the time they take their "Examen de Fin d'Etudes Secondaires".

All our courses are taught in English. We pride ourselves on providing our students with a solid basis in English grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. We take particular care to foster the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.
